SpaceX

Watch a launch from the deck.

History is being made across the bay at SpaceX's Boca Chica Starbase. The Texas Beach House sits with a direct line of sight, close enough to feel the launches.

Across the bay

Starbase sits roughly five miles south.

SpaceX's Boca Chica facility, known as Starbase, is a working test site for Starship, the largest rocket vehicle ever built. From South Padre Island the launch tower is visible across the bay, and the third-floor deck of the Texas Beach House is one of the better viewpoints on the island during scheduled launches.

Launch dates and times change constantly. Wind, weather, and the FAA all have opinions. The way locals do it: keep an eye on SpaceX's launch schedule the day-of, then bring chairs to the deck about an hour before the window opens.

The sound carries. If you're not paying attention, you'll feel the test fire before you hear it.

The third-floor wraparound deck is the spot. It also holds twenty for cocktails, so you can invite the friends you keep telling about it.
